Physicians to lose 1% of Medicare (PFS) reimbursements if not successfully e prescribing by January 1, 2012.

In a December 29th release as a part of the 2011 e prescribing initiative, CMS announced that beginning January 1, 2012, physicians would see their Medicare (PFS) reimbursements reduced by 1% if they were not successfully e-prescribing. Medicare Reimbursements will be reduced by 1.5% in 2013 and 2.0% in 2014. In the release, CMS added Durable Medical Equipment to the mix and also clarified that faxes originated from the physicians office would not qualify as e prescribing. CMS also has the ability to adjust these reductions in payment on a yearly basis. It looks like now it is not just about e prescribing a few things, CMS wants it all e-prescribed.
